Lorelle A. Miller - Biography
Lorelle Avonne Miller has been an award-winning artist since early childhood. Ms. Miller was born in Beverly Hills, California and raised in the San Fernando Valley. She graduated from the California State University of Northridge, earning her BA in Art with special emphasis in illustration, graphic design and sculpture. She continued with graduate work in Sculpture and Illustration. Ms. Miller received a professional designation from the Music Center Education Department and the Los Angeles Arts Commission.
Ms. Miller served as a Graphic Arts Manager for 15 years for the bio medical leader, Siemens Pacesetter. She has also worked over 25 years as a free-lance graphic artist while continuing to develop her skills as a fine artist in oil painting, pastels and sculpture.
Ms. Miller continually strives and develops as a painter. Working with several of today’s master artists, such as Morgan Weistling, Mian Situ, Lynn Gertenbach, Margot Lennartz, Joseph Mendez, Ryan Wurmser, and David Leffel. Ms. Miller has continued her development in stone sculpture and attended the Marble Marble Symposium in Colorado. Here she has the opportunity to work with many renowned master carvers from around the world.
Saugus has been her home for 28 years. There is quiet love and a mission of respect for the surrounding beauty of Santa Clarita which has inspired her recent exhibit “Chasing Open Spaces” which has been sponsored by the City of Santa Clairta and is featured on the city web site (www.chasingopenspaces.com). Her typical subject matter has been figurative throughout most of her career yet there has always been a deep seeded passion for nature. The extraordinary challenges of landscape and plein air painting has fed her continuing hunger to grow as an artist and painter.
Ms. Miller is also known for her involvement in street painting and over the last 12 years has been an invited and featured Madonnara (street painter) in over 50 festivals throughout California as well as invitations as a featured artist at a festivals in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, and Bucerias, Mexico. She has demonstrated her passion for beautiful pastels by street painting up to 12’x 12’ in size and has received several prestigious awards. Ms. Miller has been involved with teaching fine art classes for College of the Canyons over the last 10 years and taught Plein Air painting workshops for Ventura College. She has also taught for the Saugus School District, and been an instructor at SCV- Arts for 10 years. Member and past Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Arts Advisory Board for the City of Santa Clarita.
Artist Statement 2010
California artist Lorelle Avonne Miller exhibits a sensitivity of mood and emotion in her work that is unique, a look into the deeper wells of her experience. Her motivation is to express and communicate appreciation of natural beauty and the intensity of the human experience. Over a lifetime of developed technique and personal investigation, Lorelle shares her visions through her paintings and sculpture. She has a broad yet very finely tuned spectrum of mediums which all contribute to her expression in visual art. Collectors and audiences round the world relate on a deeper level to her work. After viewing a piece of art be it a painting, sculpture or one of more than 50 street paintings made by Lorelle, viewers describe a sense of emotional impact which is long lasting and rare.
Lorelle’s visions came at a very early age through her art and writing. She is a graduate of California State University of Northridge. Her area of study was graphic design, illustration and sculpture. She continued her studies in graduate school and today studies with the contemporary master’s of the day such as David Leffel, Morgan Weistling, Mian Situ, Lynn Gertenbach and Margot Lennartz.
Lorelle ventured into commercial art and teaching for many years while raising her family with her husband Warren. She worked as a graphic designer/Manager and Illustrator for the bio-medical entrepreneur Alfred E. Mann and many of his world-renowned companies. She also taught fine art classes at her local Community College and private art schools in her community. Her commitment to the Arts brought her to serve on the Santa Clarita Arts Advisory Board for over 4 years.
Lorelle’s desire to create seems to intensify with every year. Her commitment to her work is steadfast, with a burning desire to learn and develop her craft to the utmost. To own a piece of art made by Lorelle is to own a morsel of her very fabric and soul. She lives with her family in Santa Clarita, California.
